Hi,

I am probably going to buy an AMD R9 290x with custom cooling and PCB, mainly for gaming (I've been waiting since a long time for this one) but now that Bitcoin and altcoins are all over the place, I started wondering what was it's hash mining power ? Anyone currently with a (standard) R9 290X ? Useful for altcoin mining ?

Best regards Smiley

Hi,
Im mining with two r9 290x and so far i tuned the config to run @ about 750kH each - using cgminer with scrypt algo, win7 64bit...

I had a problem to make it working in Linux, ati drivers installed, SDK, compiled cgminer without errors, when launched it it cant find any GPU. Also clinfo shows just CPU... as far as i tried to google around this problem, I found that more peope are experiencing this problem with r290x... If anybody knows how to fix this, please let me know :-) With win7 it works like a charm, but I want to mine via linux :-) :-)

I'm running one R9 290 and it's great! The only problem is it is loud as all hell, I mean EXTREMELY loud. I found the best fix for the volume was to undervolt it by 100mV and turn the clock speed down. With my settings, I'm getting a stable, steady, and solid 760KH/s with no HW errors and very limited Rejects(~.5-1.5% depending on the coin).
For $400 it isn't too bad, but I'd just suggest only getting it if you don't live in a studio apartment because it will make sleeping problematic!

I can share my settings if anyone wants.

You can also look for the R9 270X card. I'm doing 400-450 KH/s and because it is a loss less expensive the 270X has about the same or better hashing power for your money compared to the 290X. And it's less noisy (well, depends on which card you pick, but they are easier to cool).

Of course the 290X is a great card too Smiley

I flashed my xfx 290 to a 290x so I have all my shaders unlocked. Running at 900/1500 & Thread 32765 I'm getting about 870 khash. I pretty much copied and pasted my config though so I could probably pull a bit more than that.

Thank you for those number. I guess I can hope to have better numbers and less noise since my 290X will be a custom cooled (Gigabyte Windforce, MSI Twinfrozr, ...) and factory overclocked one Smiley

Hi,
Im mining with two r9 290x and so far i tuned the config to run @ about 750kH each - using cgminer with scrypt algo, win7 64bit...

You could get over 900+ Kh/s with 290X.
I am running 3x MSI 290 and each is doing 877Kh/s.

Settings are:
TC 32765
I 20
W 512
G 1
GPU: 1000
mem: 1500

All 3 are attached to motherboard without risers.
Fans are 70% 3900rpm and temp is 70C. (In cold garage)
In a 20C room I had to run the fans at 95% but that was like a jet taking off without leaving.

Hi, what MOBO You have?

I have AsRock 970 ex4 and I want to connect the same way, 3x R9 290 (1 directly to mobo, 2x on NON powered risers) and I'm afraid it will burn my mobo.

70 degree isn't that bad for a reference cooler. Though I know how it sounds but I am sure you're accustomed to it. Happy mining mate. Smiley
