What would be the best way to start contributing to *coin development? I have experience in C and Java, but I know the official clients are written in C++. What about miner development?

Another question: how does the bitcoin network prevent double spending and creating transactions of coins that don't exist?

Perhaps not the best subforum to ask such an advanced question. Try it again elsewhere once you are allowed to post in the other forums Smiley

Questions like you ask are very fundamental, you can check my signature link for an introduction.

The actual Bitcoin code has some skilled developers that have been working on it for years. You can certainly investigate what related services you can offer in the general marketplace, but the biggest demand will be for integrators of Bitcoin-based web services.

I think you can contribute to the development of pool servers and the front-ends. The current ones can really use more features in terms of data analysis.

Probably because bitcoin found out you were posting in other people's threads and removed the automatic.

Find a coin you like or find interest in, look for it on github and follow the instructions on how to clone it!
