Anyone have suggestions on filter types for intake? I'm pulling in air from the outside and I it's pulling in a lot of dust/dirt/ect. I know I've seen someone talk about what types to use and what not to use, but I can't find the old post I read it in.

depends on what kind of dust are you trying to avoid, all of them obvious. My configs are one time use filters plus activated carbon foam 5mm filters which you can wash and reinstall. In fact you can use only activated carbon foam and choose thickness depending on your needs. Also you have to consider aperture (PPI) to avoid positive or negative pressure in mining room

i though about it too, cause the dust is hurting my farms as well, and have no really good findins and clues how to solve this.. i think the only one good method is to use aircondition with a filters.. but if there would be more ideas here i will definetly try them

you can use air conditioning but it will take 1/3 of whole farms electricity to cool the room so it's not efficient. even though most of my farms are located in town were outside temps in summer can reach 35C I still manage to work with only managed airflow and in fact different solutions in different farms. Filters are mandatory and also as I mentioned it is important to keep an eye on pressure in the room which you can manage with air vents and those are not as energy hungry as air conditioners. It all can be calculated

Awesome! Thanks so much for your help. Why do you suggest Alibaba? Won't shipping take way longer? I'm in the United States.

Another question for you ... The stuff that is labeled "pre-filter" isn't washable, is that correct? I'm finding different companies that sell activated carbon filter rolls, but they all say "pre-filter" and none say they are washable.

pre-filter label doesn't define if they are washable or no as far as I know, activated carbon foam is washable, those white filters aren't, you can even feel the fabric in your hands. Carbon foam is like kitchen sponge and white pre-filter is like wool fabric, if you wash it it will fall apart you can use those, they are washable and can last long, but keep in mind that they are for large particles, in fact they are great for ASICs at least for my environment. Also very important to keep an eye on pressure, you should balance intake and outtake of air with filters, you should get positive airflow.

Hi Thanks for the reply,
What are the effects of Negative pressure in a room?
How would I test this?

Also very important to keep an eye on pressure, you should balance intake and outtake of air with filters, you should get positive airflow. So I tried some of those activated carbon filters on my intake fan over the past few days. I'm still getting dust/dirt build up on surfaces. I have a coupe of tables in that room that I cleaned on the day that I installed the filter. Now this makes better sense, if you're saying they are for large particles. The window I use for intake has a screen in it, so it's stopping large particles, but I'm guessing activated carbon stops large smaller particles than what you are talking about. Another note ... I ran that intake ran unfiltered in the winter and didn't bring in the dust/dirt, that I'm talking about. And another note ... Unfiltered, that intake fan pulls in air that you can feel with force while stand in front of it, without the exhaust fan running. Filtered with activated carbon, you can't feel any air coming in, if the exhaust fan is turned off. Only when the exhaust is turned on, you can feel the air coming in. This leads to my next question ... Are intake fans really necessary, if you have proper exhaust? Seems like intake holes with filters should be good enough, because the exhaust fans are doing the work for the intake.

I don't use any intake fans, just a passive intake, like you said, exhaust fan sucks and naturally pulls air from the intake, just need to make sure your intake is clean and ideally not coming from anywhere near your exhaust. I might convert my passive intake into a chicken coop like crazydane did. But it looks like hes probably running a shitload more machines than I am, so there is a slight benefit with an intake fan, especially at night if you can pull some cooler air in faster.

Thanks! I'll give those filters a shot. Seems like they may be better for dust and that is my main issue right now. Washable is a huge plus. I don't want to have to be buying filters all of the time.
