EDIT: Project was moved over to Transifex, please see https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/bitcoin-wallet/ to contribute. Please read the FAQ before contributing: https://code.google.com/p/bitcoin-wallet/wiki/TranslatingOriginal post: To further spread the use of bitcoin throughout the world, localisation of existing bitcoin software and solutions is needed. This is a call for participation to translate the Bitcoin Wallet for Android! ( https://market.android.com/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet&hl=en) So far, this app is available in English, German und Russian and has been downloaded a little more than 3000 times. It offers a direct mobile bitcoin transfer and can and in fact is also used as a POS solution for merchants. To facilitate the spread of the app and the exchange of Bitcoin on mobile devices, localisation into other languages is needed. It would be awesome if anyone could help translating the app into one of the following languages: Chinese: Done! Thank you @sharkroman and @最爱你是谁! Now available for download! CzechDanishDutch: Done! Thank you @kwukduck! Now waiting for implementation... FinnishFrench: Done! Thank you @Boussac! Now available for download! HebrewHindiItalian Done! Thank you @Dusty! Now available for download! JapaneseKoreanNorwegianPolish: Done! Thank you @Meo! Now available for download! Portugese: @Leandro César Spanish Done! Thank you @Nubarias! Now available for download! Swedish: Done! Thank you @matsh! Now waiting for implementation... TaiwaneseI did part of the German translation and it only took a little more than an hour of my time. So you can do this, too! Once you decide to help out, simply follow the instructions on http://code.google.com/p/bitcoin-wallet/wiki/TranslatingIf you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to PM me. I'll get back to you ASAP. Any help is appreciated! Together we can do this! EDIT: Once you're done, either upload the translated files and forward me the link or send them directly to yossarian@live.de and I'll forward them for implementation.

I could do a Swedish translation. I use the app myself, so I know how the app works, and I have been in the Bitcoin community for 9 or so months, so I also know much about how the Bitcoin machinery works. mats@henricson.se@matshenricson

@最爱你是谁 and @matsh: Thank you guys so much! I added you to the list.
@Confucius: Sounds like a fun project! Which dialect would you prefer? Broad Australian, English Australian, Cultivated Australian, Australian Criol or Torres Strait English?

May I jump in for a second? Thanks a lot for all your offers to localize Bitcoin Wallet to your countries. It great to see the app discover new people. That said, I think it can get difficult to get several dialects of the same language in. For example English, the is currently only one language code and that is "en". @Nubarius: I just included your Spanish translation, many thanks for that! If you'd like a pre-test version mailed to you, can you write me an email to wallet@schildbach.de? Cheers, Andreas

That said, I think it can get difficult to get several dialects of the same language in. For example English, the is currently only one language code and that is "en". You can add a country code to the end of your language code as shown in How Android Finds the Best-matching Resource. See the platform SDK release notes for a list of officially supported locales (en_US, en_GB, en_CA, en_AU and en_NZ English are supported the 2.x SDK). It's also worth noting that modified ROMs may decide to implement more locales, so if you write for 2.x and include en_IE and en_ZA, you could have this support without needing Android 3.x. You can call Locale::getAvailableLocales from desktop Java for a list of all currently known possibles (on your system), or even make up new ones from the appropriate ISO standards (though I haven't looked into that).

Nubarius just sent me the Spanish translation. Good work, thanks a lot! You're welcome. The translation job was relatively easy, as the text to translate is not too much. As yossarian said, it should take a little more than one hour. It probably took me a bit longer to think about how to translate certain words and phrases than the actual typing. An important point to be careful about when translating is the encoding. I used Notepad++ on Windows, and I had to manually change the encoding option from "ANSI" to "UTF-8 without BOM" before translating. Otherwise the accented letters would end up in the wrong encoding.

I'm planning to do a Prodnet release tomorrow. If you'd like your translation to get in, could you mail it to me ( wallet@schildbach.de)? I'd be happy to see French, or Portuguese. Or perhaps Chinese?

Or perhaps Chinese? We've found somebody for each language, they are all working on the translations as of now. Can you wait a couple more days, maybe until Friday? All of the translations should be done by then.

Polish translation looks like it has been run through an automated translator.

I remember reading somewhere that the only ATM in the world in Latin is at the Vatican. Someone should do a Latin translation of the app, just for kicks
