Sometimes, people split coins into 3 categories: ASIC coins, GPU coins and CPU coins.
QuarkCoin was supposed to be a CPU coin that anyone could mine with an ordinary computer, but some people are now saying that a GPU miner has been developed. Based on what little I know about GPUs, it seems plausible that one could be written.
So, is there something that CPUs can do that GPUs just can't? Would there be any way to really strongly ensure that no GPU mining code can be written, or is it just a matter of making it harder for GPU programmers?
