hello,

can someone recommend a source for altcoins mining profitability comparison. something like a webpage that has all the coin specs, and offers calculations for difficulty, network hashs/s, mindes coins, market cap / price?

cheers ;-)

Try checking out AltCoins.com and Coindesk.com for info on AltCoin mining.
CEX.IO / GHash.IO does cloud mining with merged mining for BTC and AltCoins

Try http://coinmarketcap.com/ they have about ~ 30 coins listed raked according to volume trades.
It helps track what coin shot up in value as they mention % growth/decline of each coin.

I'm partial to coins that aren't simply replicating Bitcoin. Peercoin is the most interesting to me for its PoS architecture. Primecoin is interesting as it searches for prime numbers. There are a couple other alts that have innovative design.

Do your due diligence and make sure you don't buy into something that has been pre-mined. There will continue to be endless supply Bitcoin-clones -- instead seek innovative design and purpose.

I use coinwarz.com and i think it is pretty good.
I'm a newbie but i have been investigating some of the altcoins and the one that have got my interest is goldcoin.
It has a great community and good developers and an innovative design/setup imo.

Currently i am cpu-mining with a couple of old laptops while waiting for my mining rig that i ordered and since it is very sloow i mine grandcoins cos i find them easiest to mine and then i trade them for goldcoins on cryptsy.

If you cant mine at pool Scrypt altcoins and just convert to Bitcoin, today most profitable coin might be not most profitable coin tommorow, so better convert to Bitcoin fast

Or they might increase more than BTC. I'd say keep them as altcoins if you think it's worth the risk, however switching to Bitcoin (or even FIAT) is the safest way.
