Report Date:  Wed, 12/11/2013
On August 5, 2013 JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPMorgan) filed an application for an electronic mobile payment system which has eerie similarities to the popular online currency Bitcoin. Unfortunately for JPMorgan, all of the claims, totaling 175 claims, as of October 18, 2013, for published US patent application 20130317984 (the ‘984 application) have been either cancelled or rejected.

Thank you very much for the post.  I look forward to diving into the articles for the full picture of what JPM is trying to pull.  Good to know there isn't any progress thus far.

So if those claims have already been rejected a few month ago , why is everybody freaking now?

Because it was "Refiled" and possibly amended?  Because they are still attempting to patent it?
Just because claims have been rejected doesn't mean that they don't possess technology.  Is it vaporware? I dunno.
Those dismissing patent because its from 1999 should also dismiss the U.S. Constitution because its from 1787 (and i'm sure that there are many who would like to).
Bitcoin has been around since 2008/2009.  Do I dismiss latest generation of Android because Android 1.0 was  created in September 2008 like Bitcoin?
The fact that JPM technology dates back to 1999 means they had that many more years to improve the underlying tech.

However at the end of the day, all this lends credibility to Bitcoin.

Yes, just because its JPM, and they are filing patents to prevent others from doing what they think they can do, does this mean that what they were crafting was bad technology.
Or just in hands that aren't ours.

No one is getting ballistic here. But we should not underestimate our enemies. JP Morgan bosses are no idiots. They are among our strongest rivals.
