1] PSA: Public Service Announcement: a general message for the public
2] Bull: A person or entity that is buying an asset or contract
3] Bear: A person or entity that has temporarily sold with the intention of buying back said assets or contracts at a lower price.
4] Exiting a market: A person or entity that sells all of their assets or contracts without the intention of re-entering that market.

People who have never held BTC are not bears. They are just intensely regretful. People who have held BTC in the past, and then exited the market are not bears. They are just unfortunate.

Bears sell their BTC because they would like more BTC in the future. They are to be respected. Bulls make money. Bears make money. Pigs get slaughtered.

Stop calling yourselves bears when you are, in fact, a pig.

Hey I know this particular one! Smiley

Your post is correct. However, I must add that any long-term bear in bitcoin land necessarily becomes a swine. Only short-term bears prosper, ones that can quickly grow a pair of horns.

People who have never held BTC are not bears. They are just intensely regretful. People who have held BTC in the past, and then exited the market are not bears. They are just unfortunate.

Bears sell their BTC because they would like more BTC in the future. They are to be respected.
What about people who don't believe in BTC, never believed in BTC, and are taking that belief and attempting to profit from it by taking a short BTC position?

I'd define them as "bears", but they hardly fit into this schema.

If there is something that will make Bitcoin succeed, it is growth of utility - greater quantity and variety of goods and services offered for BTC. If there is something that will make Bitcoin fail, it is the prevalence of users convinced that BTC is a magic box that will turn them into millionaires, and of the con-artists who have followed them here to devour them.

the main term "pigs" usually used to define those who buy and Hold a stock or asset for too long due to excessive greed (profit no matter how good is never enough for them), usually resulting in them missing out on profit taking at the peak of that investment.

I posted an extract earlier on this:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=362491.msg3879272#msg3879272

"Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered" is a pretty simple saying that conveys more than it first appears. Its meaning is simply this, do not let greed affect your judgment. While this is simple its applications are many.

There are several ways the stock market punishes excessive greed. Among the ways the market punishes greed is through churn caused by commissions. The mere act of buying and selling can rack up huge costs for investors, including lost performance due to loss of capital and higher taxes (the federal gov't counts each transaction you towards your capital gains). Thus as Warren Buffett has famously advocated the ideal holding time is forever, as you never incur transaction or tax costs.

Another way the market can punish greed is through unreasonable expectations. An investor who is doing well might expect to do even better in the future ignoring reversion to the mean. This may cause the investor to hold onto stocks past the optimal time to sell them or overpay for new holdings. This mistake commonly occurs in bubbles.

A third way the market can punish is by those who chase performance. Investors who buy what has done well recently (hot sectors e.g.) can often find that they underperform the market. Yesterday's biggest winners are often not tomorrow's.

As you can see greed kills, it can kill an investor's returns by making them act in haste. The best investor is the one who is intellectually flexible and dispassionate in analysis when it comes to investing. As Warren Buffet has said the critical determinant in an investor's success is not intelligence or skill but temperament.

I too have noticed an unusual amount of sentiment of bulls against short-term bears and traders on this forum. We are insulted, hated, and called called ignorant each time we post, always because buying and holding is apparently the winning strategy and trading is supposedly futile. No... last time I checked before I sold my position the other day, I had 75 times more bitcoins than I had when I first entered this market! I think bulls are just frustrated or in denial and assume that because they don't have the skill to trade successfully, that it must be impossible and nobody else can.have it either. Either that or what they really feel is that we are being greedy and evil, this isnt fair and that nobody deserves to have more gains than them than what btc already provides by itself and that we should all be in the same train rocket boat together. In any case their arguments are always biased or flawed and overly emotional.
