Has anyone built a portable "suitcase" mining rig to take to work and plug in? Imagine 4 HD6990s chugging away for 10 hours a day under your desk, lol (keep your feet nice and warm). Of course you will "forget it" and leave it over the weekends.

Does a "suitcase" case exist?

It should work just fine if your desk is outside in Siberia. Good luck getting rid of the heat.

Lets get serious. Really.

* This is about 1500 to 2000 watt heat. It wont heat you feet, it will heat most smaller rooms.
* It is LOUD. And no, you can not isolate this - unless you get LARGE for the noice cancellation. It will not be humming, it will be screaming away. I suggest trying out one 6990 before having obviously ridiculous ideas.

* At the end, it is theft. It WILL be found, you WILL be fired, you WILL be fined. Abnd it is quite a lot of theft - about 1.x megawatthours (1500-2000 kilowatthours).

I wish peiople would stop having outright stupid ideas. And maybe put some integrity back into their life.

Yeah this case is damn good.

Back to the Idea:
This is bullshit, you can only handle such amount of heat in a small case with water cooling. I would also suggest not to invest into Bitcoin mining, unless you have the knowlegde and could throw the money away without any pain.

It is not a stable investment and if you really calculate your hourly wage, it isnt worth it. The reason why i mine bitcoins is because im a nerd. I love to build stupid fast computers and let them run. Cheesy My boss knows what im talking about. He got a 100000 dollar bill from running Jugene for about an hour Cheesy.

I'm imagining that you have yet to own any real mining rigs and thus are not aware of the reality of the noise and heat they put out. Not to mention that >2 6990 cards in a case are rather difficult to cool, let alone a briefcase with 4 of them. Have you lifted a rig with 4x GPU cards before? It's not something you want to take on the train with you during the commute. Oh, there's also the "Yeah I left my $4000 rig at the office unattended and not locked up from prying ears and eyes."

Please, think before you post stuff like this.

if you work in cubicle type office, then your neighbors will be really pissed. Just bring some old laptops.

Old laptops will not give any mhash at all. maybe some khash, that's it. not worth the effort. here's an idea, I know it's crazy.. buy a mining rig and leave it at home while you are at work. wow!

But that wouldn't involve theft -- which takes all the fun away for some people.

As if running a computer to make free money wasn't great enough -- some people don't even want to "work" that much at it. They want free electricity.

It's not just the weight. Someone might call the bomb squad.   Cheesy

Yeah, once they see all of the led-lights, cables everywhere, and really loud fans going they're sure to notice the "convenient and portable work-briefcase-mining-rig with 4x 6990s".  It's a bomb, run!  Shocked Grin

I was also planning to add a car battery (to make it portable) so I can move it around the office with me. Rolling work bags are all the rage right now. LOL!

You guys are great, thanks for all the awesome ideas!
