Is there a more-or-less comprehensive list of launch dates and/or mining difficulties for altcoins?  The closest I could find was dustcoin.com, but it only includes coins that are relatively established...

Your best bet is to open up  "Alternate Cryptocurrencies" here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0 and check it few times a day since this is the first place where any new altcoin owners introduce their coin.

No need to worry about that. Even if you miss 100 crap coin launches you 'll catch the next one. Except of the names nothing else really changes
