This is probably a total noob question, but would it be possible, or has anyone tried switching out the ASIC on a USB Block Erupter with another ASIC?

It doesn't work like that, it would be like putting an AMD chip in an Intel socket, drastic physical and software differences that you'd have to overcome.

I figured as much, but didn't know if other ASICs made by ASICMiner were compatible as well.

The BE 100 chips I think are the exact same chips they put in those USB Block Erupters, you could probably swap those out, but they are rated at the same speed more or less.
