Obviously I'm just starting this thread so I can make posts elsewhere on the forum, but I figure I might as well make it about something. I'm an Airman in the US Air Force, and I'm going through rough times.
The holidays are stressful, and thanks to the worst congress in history targeting military personnel as a potential way to save money (not leaving Afghanistan, oh no!) I just found out my job is on the chopping block. Add an expensive court case to that and my future would be very uncertain and very bleak... if not for the month of November's effect on the BTC price.

In early November I overheard a couple of coworkers talking about BTC. I did a bit of research, and while $200 seemed a bit of a gamble, I thought it was too interesting a chance to pass up. I waited until my next paycheck dropped, and after waiting a little to see if the price would go back under $200 (obviously it didn't), I bought 1 BTC for $235.

For the next week I watched in awe as the price skyrocketed. I was glued to r/bitcoin and r/bitcoinmarkets. I watched the senate hearings although I'd never watched CSPAN in my life. In a fortunate turn, I put everything I was willing to risk into BTC right at the lowest dip after that, when the price was about $500. The rush I got as I put in that buy order was amazing. I told myself, "You can't win big if you don't play big." My future was inexorably tied to the BTC price.

And then the price started to rise in earnest. I was visiting family for Thanksgiving and had plenty of time to read and learn about investment and market strategy, and on a more practical level how to actually utilize my BTC. My investment more than doubled. Suddenly and for the first time in a long time, I was happy about my finances. I bought my family's holiday presents on Bitcoin Black Friday with the profits of my investment using gyft cards and donated to charities I would have had to pass up if I'd never bought BTC. Will I regret someday spending .2BTC on a Nintendo 3DS? I'm sure. But buying something tangible with virtual money was a really cool experience, and even if those .2 BTC are worth $10k someday I'm glad I can say I was actually using my coins.

Now I don't know if I'm ever going to be "rich" because of BTC, but I'm no longer in trouble financially. The community has been incredible and the wealth of knowledge available is vast. Thank you everyone who shares their wisdom, advice, guidance, and even just their sense of humor about this strange and revolutionary new currency. I guess the only thing left to say is...

TO THE MOON!

Very cool story. Don't invest more than you can afford however. Bitcoin has a lot more ups and downs to go. It's still finding it's place in the world and it's going to take some time to see where things settle.

lol... this is the problem every single Bitcoiner is having. How much of our coins we should spend? And if we spend some, will we regret about it later when BTC climbs the 10K mark? So far I haven't spent even 1 mBTC from my stash.  Grin

It really does not matter if you spend some Bitcoins today, but you should rebuy few days-weeks later.
Bitcoin should be used as currency, even if it is bit tough to buy Bitcoins now

Looking at the current levels of volatility, how can you be sure that if you spend some 10 coins (worth $9,000) today you will be able to buy them back later at the same rate.
