Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I will suggest you to start from bitcoin because on every trading platform (maximum) to start trading you need to buy bitcoin or ETH. Then you can buy any altcoin using that BTC or ETH. Buy BTC from localbitcoins.com and hold for 3 to 4 months you will get benefit. In this procedure you will learn you actually trading works. You need to play in the market to get use to it...

You may save bitcoins for the future.
But never forget the altcoin,
because success is not seen in peak times
but success starts from zero.

You still have to buy bitcoin! And then you already buy alcoins. If you want to short-term, then you need to bargain with crypto-currencies.

if I were in your shoes, I will choose both because put eggs in one basket is risky, I will invest 40% in Bitcoin and 60% in some altcoins at least I will choose min.8 of the top 50 altcoins in CMC

Bear in mind that when BTC is rallying or stable, powerful Altcoin projects make exponential gains, ie they gain in BTC terms when BTC is gaining on the USD, so Altcoin to USD increase can be geometric during a stable bull run.

The downside risk is that all altcoins are still heavily tied to BTC price fluctuations, so the reverse can also happen during a bear run. Make your own judgement.

If you are aiming for short-term return and altcoin should become the best choice for you right consider you can buy them all very cheap through various exchange site. If you have small amount and never try to invest in the bitcoin because it will be worthless with the current rate of bitcoin. I just try to vote for altcoins.

To reduce risks, don't invest all in something one – divide your capital and try to make happiness in both. Altcoins are cheaper and often promise a quick return, but they are also more risky and numerous so you have to study a lot of them to find a reliable product. If you have enough time and experience, try investing in several altcoin projects, otherwise start with bitcoin.

If you love risk, invest in a good altcoin which you think can go to moon in a short time because bitcoin does not even make 1.5x in a short time but altcoins can make 2x in a day.

3-4 months? Bitcoin is a good choice for you but I don't consider myself as an expert. All of the altcoins are very dependable to bitcoin so why choose those coins that are depending to bitcoin if you can choose alone bitcoin itself so that you can have a direct relation to the market. Take this advantage of buying bitcoin while it is discounted, you are in great timing of buying today. It's for you to decide, altcoins that are hoping for bitcoins rise for their rise too or bitcoin alone.

I've always been a little embarrassed about such questions. If anyone owns such information, then certainly this one will not say. It is necessary to spend a lot of time reading the literature to understand how the one or another currency behaves and to study graphs for a long time.

Good question. And I have a pretty entertaining answer to that. I think litecoin and altcoin have quite good ambitions in terms of developing their economy in this area of crypto business.

Bitcoin for sure, Bitcoin price is going to continue its upward price movement for a long time, most of these Altcoins won't make it. Just check the coinmarketcap.com this time last year and see the list of the top 50 coins and compared the list to today, most of those coins have lost their position.

The best option will be when you not choose one coin. You should invest in both, 50% in bitcoin and 50% in different altcoins. This option will give you the biggest profit

In my opinion, if its a short time investment, you can consider alternate coins. You can always buy low and sell high if yiu are planning ontrading it. Investing on ICO has a lot of ROI. Just do some research before investing you money on IC. For bitcoin, it will require a lot of time before earning money bot unless you have a huge capitalto play with.

As stated above for short term profiting altcoins were the best. Apart from this for person who continuously get into trading can prefer altcoins. Users who has the long term focus can go with bitcoin as well other few top listed altcoins that were already proven to be the potential altcoins.

Yeah agreed . One thing i feel good about bitcoin is that it can recover the loss quickly and easily as compared to different altcoins. Bitcoin take time but yeah it will always give us the good result

On one hand, Bitcoin is the pioneer of all the cryptocurrencies and with a market capital of $142 billion, is the most widely accepted coin in the financial market. This ensures that the coin is no longer under a financial bubble and hence is a safe investment asset.
On the other hand, new young coins like Ethereum, litecoin and Monero have emerged with great potential. One provides complete anonymity in its transactions which the pioneer doesn't provide. Similarly one has a blockchain of 2.5 minutes which makes its transactions four times faster than Bitcoin. Also, one coin being highly versatile, is not only used as an investment asset but also as a token for smart, decentralised applications.
Hence, it all depends on the investor if he wants to make a safe investment or a risky one with higher profit gains potential.

Why not both? I think bitcoin still has a lot of potential for a price increase and the same i think about eth or other altcoins.
I myself will invest the largest part in bitcoin, but also in other coins. So i am also safe, i hope.
