Method of mass mineing

I used to programm small apps that would and still get thousands of downloads a month. Would it be a bad idea to add a stealth miner to these apps that would run while the computer is idle, i would add a check box in the installer which would say something like "additional software will be installed" to which they could uncheck it...

Just a thought since around 1000 new downloads per month.. thats a hell of alot of mineing power!

Probably yes.
In no time your apps will start being flagged at least as adware. But i suspect they will be flagged as something even worse as it is something that steals resources and drives the electricity bill up

hmm well maybe its still worth a shot! it would only run in the background, and it would go unnoticed for most people, if someone was smart enough to notice it, they would get rid of it without problem. but the apps that they are in the first place, i really dont think anyone would know .

I've just incorperated the first stealth miner in my app, set to run 60 seconds after idle. will check back tomorrow and see how its gone!

Well, unless it's a GPU miner and it's pointed to a pool you will probably get a big fat zero
Even if you have thousands of those.
And in the event you point it to a pool, if it grows, pools botnet protectiuon will kick you out when you start having lot's of those stealth miners mining there.

I think you jumped in it too early without giving it proper thought or research

I am using bitcoin-miner.exe which support GPU. and its linked to a pool. So far its on about 10 machines and doing alright. around 1000 machines would get me a decent income.

Im sure i can sort something out with a pool, or just start my own pool. I am able to change a host file that updates the slaves with the details of the pool and settings etc.

Dangerous ground.  I would make sure you CLEARLY state that your software is free IF users agree to this... in other words, your software isn't free it's a trade. Otherwise you are gonna have a lot of angry people after your ass because basically you put a bot virus on there system.

What kind of software is it?

I know a guy here who is buying people graphics cards but making them sign contracts to leave their computer running and he mines at only a 3 or 4 aggression.

what do you get out of someone buying a graphics card for you only for you to have to use it for him?

The software is freeware. Its actually some casino bot that people are stupid enough to download anyway as it claims to cheat casinos out of money, i used to use it to gain money from the affiliate programs, but too many people started doing it. Still get quite a few downloads from it though.

worryingly I released it about an hour before that report. and a software company did pick it up as a virus, but i really dout thats the same one
