Metamask is a browser extension and wallet. it doesn't connect to your wallet because it's a wallet on it own. Metamask is good and haven't had any serious problems as I know. With Metamask you have a full control over your funds because you have a seed phrase so you can consider it safe. Moreover, you can access MEW via Metamask without MEW knowing your seed phrase. One of the best ETH/ERC20 wallet in my opinion.

Can I access it from different PCs ?

Well of course, it is a browser extension of MEW, you can access it by consdering you've imported your .json file, you know your password and seedphrase just in any case.
and please research on your own, this is a very easy to google, and can be search inside the forum, know the function of search button. Ask in bct if you can find any information regarding you matter.

In simple terms, It's a wallet and the only reason why MEW, MyCrypto or any other service has access to it is because It has an API. It's not possible to access it from different computers unless you import the seed.

-Brave

If you want to used it on another computer then obviously you just need to install the plugins there at those browsers mentioned and input your credentials.

it is just like Myetherwallet but very easy and secure use. You can create Eth and erc20 token support wallet using Metamask. And also you can import already created myEtherwallet. This extension is very secure than direct login to MEW. Another advantage is when you Eth based decentralized exchange(most of the DEX support) we can use this extension for transaction confirmation

Yes, it is an ethereum wallet but in order to send the tokens from one address to another, you need to use it with the official MyEtherWallet website. Although you can view the view the tokens as well as eth balance in metamask itself.
It is a great plugin that even prevents from fake phishing websites of MEW, etc.
