I took this line: It's not sexy.

From this post (see below): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36772.msg452825#msg452825

Over at that this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36772.0

To start this thread.

I've been thrashing around, in my holed head, this Achilles heel of Bitcoin for the past couple weeks. In a sense, Bitcoin is not sexy, with the exception to those who somewhat get it.

With that said, what (or how) would you do to you make Bitcoin sexy?

What do you say to (try to) convince them that it's not just some short term waste of time/money?

This is the million dollar question. I have found people don't care about the idea of digital money. It's not sexy.

BTC is a great thing, but there is no specific use (outside of trading) that appeals to regular people. I know you can buy cool stuff, but you can also buy stuff with cash.

The best way to convince someone to use BTC is not to even mention it. Mention the product or service that needs BTC to work.

Example:
"Hey, have you seen service "X"? You should check it out"

*X needs BTC to function.

Most important use of bitcoin  unexplored: money transfers. But if the only way to exchange bitcoins to local currency is acting like a broker/speculator, most people won't use it, except early adopters.

That's an important bitcoin use that may impulse bitcoin economy and bring it to the masses.

I think there should be a bitcoin standards committee. This committee would be made up of people from around the world. They would choose the 'official' bitcoin logos, icons, and designs. They could also come up with the bitcoin mission statement in order to give the bitcoin community some solid goals.

I have no doubt that bitcoin could be VERY sexy if that is something we strived for.

This issue has me perplexed. With all the bright minds on this board, and of those attached to Bitcoin elsewhere, why hasn't this issue been solved? It's like building the best rocket in the world to explore the universe, but nobody knows how to get it off the ground, let alone into space.

Ok, how about we start by defining the word 'useful'? What is it that we need bitcoin to do that it currently can't do?

Allow me to clarify my post, not speaking for the author of the post I quoted.

I believe Bitcoin is very useful. My statement was in reference to the ease of sending and receiving Bitcoin.

Yeh, right! The next thing you'll be telling me is that she has a Bitcoin tattoo. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if you photoshop one up just to post the image to this thread.

Thinking you mean that Apple is sexy, I would have to agree. I'm not a Mac guy, but do know that Apple knows how to package their brand. Take a look at this page and see what ideas can be pulled from it to use in regards to Bitcoin: http://www.apple.com/iphone/design/#design-video
