At first glance, not knowing the doge meme, I shrugged off the coin as a scam coin or something of the like.  One thing that did strike me at the beginning, however, was the humor.  The picture is funny, the wording is funny, the fact that it's marketcap hit over $5,000,000 in a week is quite funny.

Actually it's hilarious.

But is doge being propped up simply because it's been a profitable venture for some, or is it because the users truly believe it retains novel value and potential to stand as a competing currency?

I for one would love to trade doges for commodities in the longrun, but, in all honesty, did you adopt a doge because the money factor or the novelty?

Can we teach this doge to stay?  Or will he run away?

Doge is a novelty, plain and simple. It was a created as a joke. It got popular simply from people talking about it but when the utility reflects the fact that it's a joke, they'll be worthless. It's already getting old.

They're all sort of jokes. Dogecoin has momentum though which the rest don't have. And a real community.

Dogecoin has a value as a joke until the joke becomes old and gets replaced by a new funnier one.  Roll Eyes

Can anyone say with a straight face that a joke (look at the title: DOGEcoin) will become an accepted currency?  Tongue

Greedy trolls will mislead people when there is an opportunity for money to be made. Be weary of forum advice.

DogeCoin has gone viral, it is just barely touching the mainstream (check pinterest). You have to understand, we in this forum are the minority of people interested in cryptocurrency. Most are ordinary people who dont know or care to know about the technical side of Doge. It might be old to some of you by now, but how many people are seeing it for the first time every day, because of the viral aspect of Doge.

The smart move is to ride it out. If you like to take risks, like me. Buy on Coinedup, try to sell half elsewhere for double, then try to buy back your position at close to the original rate. It's easy money and helps push the coin's value.

Just remember when trading, to trade multiple small amounts, to minimize risk. If your selling 1m, break it up into multiple 100k trades. Its daunting but worth it.

In that case, I quote you #2 of the 10 commandments from the book of shibibli

Quote
2. Dogecoin isn't a joke, it is a fun coin made to appeal to a greater audience, to spread the excitement and fun of cryptocurrency. It has gotten a ton of people into cryptocurrency who had never previously been into it. In that way, it is greatly beneficial to the general altcoin community
.

Kneel down for the great lord shibe.

Honestly, Cryptocurrency is a joke. Bitcoin got serious when the governments started discussing about it. Bitcoin will be serious if the governments ban them. Bitcoin will still be serious if the buyers and sellers wants some anonymity. All other coins are joke and will eventually fall if bitcoin is dead.

So DOGE is a joke among several other cryptos but the fact is DOGE has a huge community already in a very short period of time. None other crypto has got this big familiarity and the community is growing bigger without a proper exchanger. It is definitely worth to have a bag of DOGEs now and hold for a few months. Who knows? It can do a lot wonders  Grin
DOGE, being funny, is doing much better than other cryptos and has got the potential to hit atleast 5 cents in a few months.
