Anyone interested in the idea of setting up a social network for bitcoin users, we would be basing the system on Diaspora, integrating OTC-WOT GPG, with a focus on allowing it to be bitcoin users identities online, such that they can have pseudonyms but at the same time not be faceless/anonymous.
Main concern also being to protect users privacy and prevent scammers on working their way back into the social fabric.
Another goal would be to have it running on a namecoid domain and be available via Tor.

Very interested but, unfortunately, I'm not a coder.
Anything else I can help with?

Still around.

Actually the code is already there, I think I have a spare server that I can set this up on.
I was just wondering what level of interest there would be for this.

I also thought about that (I have experience setting up a small social network using livestreet), however as for me, I don't have time for such project.

I think its a great idea. Could people have buyer and seller ratings in their profiles?

I'll set one up using StatusNet and see if people enjoy it. Should be easy to add Bitcoin extensions. I'd be glad to join/help with Nefario's Diaspora-based one too. Not trying to steal your thunder, Nefario. Yeah I think it's a really good idea.

It's just something that I think is desperately needed by the community to be allow it to defend itself against scammers. Nefario.

If it makes the OTC-WOT easier to use for those of us who do not regularly use IRC then I'm all for it.

I think we could do something along the lines of OTC, but that would be a phase 2. We'd need to build some additional functionality. Right now I'm trying to come up with a good domain name for it

This sounds like a great idea. I do a fair bit of web coding so I'm up for helping in any way I can.

Looks interesting. The more the merrier. Yes, I think it will....it supposedly will support itself in the beginning by being a botnet for bitcoins, which depending on the acceptance level of the network, could be a big bitcoin seller...worldwide I think it will be on 1 million personal computers easy. The big IF being if it can be done and is not vaporware.

Yeah I've already been onto the anon+ guys, they're not doing a web based system, they're prefering to re-invent the wheel with a distributed one that requires an installation (why use this when retroshare is available). Simple because it will require users to install something it's not going to get much of a critical mass IMO. I would think any kind of system that was going to be useful, get critical mass to get a network effect would have to be no install and web based. Nefario.
