Running a custom .conf?

So, I've been reading the forums for a couple weeks and decided to try to mine. I am going to start with hobo nickels. I've got the HN app, cgminer, made the HoboNickels.conf, sync'd the blockchain and I think I'm ready to start mining, but I'm wondering what I need to do now that all this is in place. I'm guessing it's the same for all scrypt based coins so I'm hoping someone's willing to help or point me to where I can read where I go from here.
