Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

I just did an exchange with Patel. I bought mastercoin with BTC. We did a 2-part exchange, first a smaller one then a larger one. He had up to 0.51btc at a time and didn't run off.

NOTES:
1. Provided proof of MSC ownership before transaction
2. Very rapid transaction: I had confirmed MSC ownership in under 20 minutes.
