I have an original early model of the PS3 that is fully backwards compatible with PS1 & PS2 games. Even though yes the PS4 did just come out. I do know for a fact that my PS3 still has great value. So I am curious what it might be worth to some of you if I were to sell it for BTC.

Full S/NM: CM094077247-CECHE01 MG

Contents / items included in this query...

1) 1 x Original MGS4 box, game no included.
2) 1 x HDMI Gold Cable
3) 1 x BlueRay Remote missing a battery cover, still works.
4) 1 x Power Cable
5) 1 x 80gb System.
6) 1 x Two Controller charger that also has two USB slots to allow for the simaltaneous charging of up to four controllers.
7) 2 x Dualshock 3 controllers, one functiong while the other just needs a battery.
-7a) Consider it to be one working controller for righ now until the other one that just needs a batery is found.

Also not too sure on how a deal like this would work if I did sell it for BTC since trust has to go both ways and start with someone.

To be decided...

To answer your last concern, that's what escrow is for.

As for the cost of something like this, since it's used and not exactly in the best condition, you can't expect much. You also need to answer some important questions:

1.) Has the device ever had custom firmware installed on it?
2.) Has it been banned from connecting to the PSN?
3.) PAL., NTSC-NA, NTSC-JP?
4.) Physical defects? Scratches, scuff marks, anything of the sorts? Good to know for people looking into it for collection purposes.

Assuming everything's in working order as you stated, asking for $99 would be pushing the limits. The backwards compatibility is nice, but you need to remember that the first generation PS3 devices were notoriously bad when it came to performance, plus had some major heat issues. Some of them even literally melted because they got so hot under normal operation.

That said, you'd be lucky to get $100 for it.

I'd start with BTC0.1 shipped, and let it work up from there. Just my two cents, though.

1) No, just official stuff.
2) Never, still use it sometimes.
3) North America
4) Not much after a good wipedown, dust n finggerprints.

Still wworks like a champ, I run LHC@Home on it sometimes, ran for a week solid without issue. So I guess I got one of the better units. As ffor notoriusly bad, I've never had a single hiccup on this thing, no even with heat and I'm in an attic room lol. Also, as you used in the opening sentence, not in he best condition, I wouldnt o that far. Other than being used it runs like the day it was new.

I will say this, if I did decide to go and actually sell it. I wouldnt let first gen issues from other units affect price... sure a lot of them had majo issues and went all YLOD or w/e it was but like I said, this things runs like the day it was new IMO.

Edit: FYI, mispellings etc are from a laptop with a keyboard that needs replacing lol.

That's not too bad then. I'd still set this up as an auction rather than simply asking for offers, though. Start at something low and work up. You'll get what people think it's worth in the end. Worse comes to worse, you can always try it on eBay, though I can see why BTC may be more tempting.

Normally I would try and sell it on eBay but I was hoping to maybe get some BTC to try and invest in more equipment after I get to a certain amoun.

Also, what do you man by "as an auction" in terms of this forum ?

Unless I missed somehin here which is possible, I didn't see an auction section. Even if there is one, how would it work in terms of not selling it if the price in the end isn't to my taste ?

Whatever year the MGS4 bundle was released, I'm the original owner bought from BestBuy.

O well nevermind, the reason I'm asking, and probably why other's have and will ask, is that firmware 3.55 and below allowed you to install linux on the ps3.

When people say " Old " ps3's are worth more, that's what they're referring to.

A ps3 fat that has been updated is probably worth 80$ or less

Well, it's possible I might still be on that... I'll power it up and check.

Will edit this reply so keep an eye on it.

Edit: Looks like it's on 4.5, if I could I'd downgrade.

Im pretty sure you can use an e3 flasher on certain fat models to downgrade the firmware. You can do more research on the ps3hax forums.
