The fan on my radeon 5870 died, and it'll likely take asus 1 month to "process" and send me back a fixed one, and they won't sell me a fan on it's own, so I resorted to buying a new heatsink + fan. I already bought a ZALMAN VF1000 from a user on these forums, but it doesn't seem to have cooling for VRMs and I'm afraid of the card frying if I don't have VRM cooling, so I need to buy a VRM heatsink. I can pay in bitcoins.

If you aren't a trusted seller, then I'll have to pay with something that allows me to reverse payment in the case of a scam (I've already been scammed on these forums..) such as paypal.

I saw something like a thermalright vrm-r5 but that's awfully complicated for what I need done. I thought I could just get away with a chunk of aluminum with fins :/

Try putting the heat sink that was used for the memory and vrm from the stock cooler and just put the zalman fan on after that. Basically remove the fan from it and the shroud and you left with that black aluminum heat sink see if you can get that on first then just put the zalman cooler one hehe.

The reference stock heatsink + fan assembly is just one huge chunk of metal, heatpipes, and plastic. There is no seperate pieces for ram or VRM.

Here's pictures of the 5870 itself, the top of the HSF, and the bottom of the HSF. Yes there is white thermal paste on some parts because I had to take it apart once already to try to fix the fan (thought it might have been out of lube or something. It's just plain ol shot)

I think I found a compatible VRM minisink at http://www.zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=447 but I can't find anyone that sells it in the USA. Maybe if someone could help me out?...
