I have tried to setup for mining. My wallet started at 255~ weeks to update and it has stalled at around 70 for the last 7 or 8 hours. Is this normal? Bear with me folks, i am trying to soak up as much knowledge as i can. Just using a alienware X51 that sits around collecting dust most of the time.

Nope that's not normal. Are you using bitcoin-qt? If so check the file debug.log in the data area. (~/.bitcoin on linux, dunno about Windows) It might give some clue as to what the holdup is.

Try restart your computer. If it continue to stall, you have manually delete blockchain
