It wasn't major when they were adding various "Other Bitcoin Links" (Largest Transactions, Bitcoin Nodes Globe... )
So I guess it is not just about querying realtime blockchain DB
It wasn't major when they were adding "Send via email or SMS" feature
It can't be anything requiring Bitcoin-Qt sourcecode changes.
It can't be free giveaway.

"Major" announcement... hmm...

Could be Litecoin wallet and litecoin blockchain.
I am not sure those bitcoin dev team are friendly to litecoin... are they?
If this is the case, it will affect litecoin price rising. Also, some expectation for other alt coins could be made.

Fiat-Bitcoin exchange is a major, or maybe way more than a major.

I think it will be multi language support. This is beneficial only for bitcoin. Chinese language is highly likely.

I'm sure whatever it is it'll be anti-climactic. I hope it's more security features though.

They get funding from outside investors to either put more money into the product or promote it or take it mainstream etc. I don't know how they want to make money back though, unless it's from a donation or something.

They are announcing they are finally dropping the ridiculous "650W/Gh/s" electricity consumption metric.  The MSM will now have to go elsewhere to get support for the "BTC ruins the environment" stories.

BTW, I just visited Blockchain.info, and the bottom half of the "stats" page with the worthless "miners' operating revenue/margin/BS" was missing (although the undying "650" number was still there in a footnote.)  Probably my crappy PC/browser, although one can always hope for a Merry Christmas present from blockchain.info.

True, but I still don't think has much behind it yet even though it is the second best coin.
