I'm sitting here at work until TrueCrypt is done encrypting a drive so I can use it for off-site backups. Just thought I'd share, since I have another 4 hours until it's done, and it's been going for 1.5 hours already.

From my experience it depends a lot of what encryption algorithm you choosed and how fast the drive is.

get a faster drive Wink

The drive was around before SATA had completely ousted IDE. It connects via USB 1.0 speeds, and I have to use the drive because that's the drive they have for backups. I can't even say, "Oh well, at least I'm getting paid for it" because I'm salaried!

Probably more than how long it takes to just clone the drive (half a tera in a not so recent machine takes more than a whole day)

(I dont always get new reply notifications, pls send a pm when you think it has happened)

Took me 36-48 hours to encrypt my 1.5 TB hard disk.
