Make Bitcointalk great again!
A nice message from a newbie, right Smiley ?

My suggestion is to make a button to hide all messages from users with signatures.
I believe 90% messages of such users are just signature spam and that messages doesn't help other users at all.
The new merit system and Copper membership partially helps to solve the spammy messages issue, but I would prefer a more brute way to solve it.

Next time make sure to use the search function.
This sort of question had been answered long time ago it is now an ancient repetitive question someone can ask consistently.

just go here and check Don't show users signature: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=theme

I guess what OP meant is a button to hide all messages/posts from users with signatures, not hiding the signatures.

Brute way, doesn't make much sense, if you believe 90% of posts from sig users are spam then with a button like this you will miss out on the 10% of genuine posts by sig users. Better use the ignore button.

My bad for not understanding it correctly but it seems it is great to have that feature in the new forum software.

You understood it right.

Imagine your email box without spam filters. It would be a nightmare.
The same way we use the "Spam" folder in our email box, we would use that function to filter all the spammy messages in the forum.

You want to reduce the spam? Start it with yourself first.
Before opening a thread about a suggestion, think of the possible scenarios, loopholes and conflicts if it got implemented. Otherwise, it will just add to the overall spam here in the Meta alone.

Honestly, this is a stupid idea even from a newbie.
Think of it, if post with signatures were filtered, the only visible posts left here will be from newbies w/o signatures, brand new members, and luckily satoshi's posts.

You'll even miss nullius' and theymos' posts (signatures aren't all campaigns, some are personal).
It is pretty funny on how a newbie identifies the spam early on his membership in the forum yet he doesn't even took the time to familiarize himself the options and settings he can do to his accounty, it makes you wonder if this is just an alt account of someone hoping to get a few merits from his newly opened topic just to rank up.

I do think the option you are proposing is not good as you are not effectively removing the spam in the forum, what you are doing is of course blocking a lot of posts you just assumed are all spam because the poster is carrying a signature, which is totally wrong.

Ok, I got it, the idea was not good.

I know it's possible to turn off signatures or to block them partially using a script.
The idea was to change the behavior of some posters, just like signature campaigns changed it.
I will try to work on a better idea Smiley

The whole forum staff and a lot of high ranked users are also trying to find an ultimate solution for the spam (See the merit as it was the first official answer to the problem).
So don't worry, you are not alone, and it's not only your job to solve this situation.
Every idea has pros and cons, but in the end, this will have a solution or the forum will slowly fade away...
The first and most urgent problem is regulation the bounty managers but there's nothing average people can do in connection with this... but we'll see...

What is happening today? Is the newbie's troll day? Maybe we should baptize the May 17th like that.
Look, man, if you don't like people with signatures, just ignore us. So simple!! Do you know how to do this?

Make the forum great again? Have you been here enough time to even know how the forum was? For many of the great users' in here have been wearing a signature for a long while!
Bah, whatever, it seems like the fool Newbie's day.

Because someone is wearing a signature doesn't mean the person don't have something reasonable to contribute to the forum. Even most people that claim they are not wearing signatures still spam the forum.

They are coming. More spammy accounts are going to post this kind of shit in the meta section. They are like pest that will attack when they see foods.
