What is a tx id? Sorry I'm new to all this.

I wouldn't worry about it. You don't have any bitcoins any more.

best troll in weeks   A+

This is not some pseudoeconomic post-modern Libertarian cult, it's an un-led, crowd-sourced mega startup organized around mutual self-interest where problems, whether of the theoretical or purely practical variety, are treated as temporary and, ultimately, solvable.
Censorship of e-gold was easy. Censorship of Bitcoin will be… entertaining.

Delete the email and move on, there isn't any bitcoins on it. Plus if you did find bitcoins are your morals and ethics so low you would steal? Not cool man.

I find it bizzare people are telling him how to secure himself in his little theft attempt instead of pointing out its not his money.

I told him he was an idiot, not sure if that counts as either. But I don't see anything wrong with people trying to help. Not everyone knows its a scam or trolling. Normal people do inhabit these forums .... I think Wink

If it was real I would just answer him:
Do this: Uninstall the bitcoin wallet. Install the new version and import the wallet back.
If a person with 50+ BTC can't think about that, I'm pretty sure it would be a good thing if he lost it somehow.
If anyone of you wants to know which password contained the txt file I will tell you.. IMO it was a pretty safe password.

Here's a related question:

Which email attachments are safe to open and which are not, ie., which file attachments are known to contain viruses and which are safe.

Microsoft Office
PDFs
Javascript files
zip files?

etc.

I opened the file that you just posted. My computer started making a lot of noise from the hard drive but I couldn't see anything happening on screen. Now all of a sudden my wallet is gone and so are my 23 bitcoins.

Can somebody please help me with this? Is this some kind of joke? I'm really worried!

Don't tell me you ran an .exe? Please .............. that would make you just about the dumbest person on the planet.

That's a huge question, without a simple answer. For example, websites nearly all contain javascript, and javascript can be used to do "naughty things" to other websites if the other website isn't secured properly.

Its best not to open anything really Sad

I had a big argument with a guy that worked at Microsoft(non-programmer) about whether email could be dangerous. I told him it could and he said it was impossible. Well, it was like 3 months later that a story came out.  lol   This was years ago.

Most people that work at Microsoft are non-programmers, even their programmers unfortunately Wink

3 years ago, my gmail account was hacked. I was shocked, because until then I had believed that Gmail was impossible to be hacked. My system wasn't infected, but I lost all my old mails.
