E-Sports
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_sports is a fast growing industry with a demographic that is a perfect fit for bitcoin adoption and usage. Gamers tend to be young, tech savvy, early adopters that are under served by traditional financial institutions, and their heavy online presence indicates a strong demand for a digital currency system such as bitcoin.
Intel has recognized the value of this demographic and recently became the sponsor of GSL, the premier Starcraft 2 league. Following in the path of Intel, I recently decided to invest $100 and 100 BTC in a sponsorship deal with a much smaller e-sports event, the Iccup Starleague. You can view the details of that tournament here
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=190866 There is a cash prize for the top 4 finishers in that tournament, but due to my sponsorship, places 5-8 now also receive a prize of 25 bitcoins each. There are currently over 400 players competing for 56 spots to qualify for this tournament. I was hoping the bitcoin community could make a donation so that all 56 qualifiers could at least receive a single bitcoin each. If we can collectively come up with 50 bitcoins, we get the added benefit of a 60 second advertisement spot for the live streamed semi finals and finals that should get over 10,000 viewers. In terms of the exposure and publicity, the return on investment should be excellent, not to mention that we get some bitcoins in the hands of people that will very likely become eager users and promoters of bitcoin.
