Made a donation via BTC recently to The Pirate Bay, as many have noticed they have been changing domains a lot recently because of domain seizures.
Curiously, do any of the more web savvy folks here know why their .org domain doesn't get seized or shut down?

They may have just gotten lucky or found some kind of offshore provider that can host domains that governments can seize easily, from what I've seen of the whole megaupload drama the advice from Kim Dotcom is to avoid the .com addresses because they tend to be hosted in the U.S.

Because it's just a redirect?
Redirecting URL's cannot be seized? Maybe a policy at Public Internet Registry?

I don't think they could ever even aspire to be as totalitarian as Team America: World Police, but it doesn't stop them trying. Banning websites its futile anyway because it takes five minutes to get on them via a proxy.

If the big mediacompanies ask a nice and fair price for their products, then I will consider buying their stuff. As long as they still want top dollar for their crap I won't. Also I don't want to buy a movie before I've seen it. If it's a good one, I will buy it, if not, than tough luck for them.
Torrent sites are too resilient to be put to a halt. Shut one down, two pop up.

What would be a nice & fair price to you? I download shit loads of stuff illegally, but this argument of 'try before you buy' is such a clichéd excuse. Do you really buy 100% of all the stuff you illegally download and like? Do you want to try a meal before you pay for it, or take some clothes out on a test run to see if you like them? You can always rent or stream movies or go to the cinema to see them etc, then buy them when they're released.

If a movie is good enough to buy in my opinion, than I will. Those moviecompanies just seem to believe that people will buy all the crap they put on the shelves. They seem to put more effort in making a lot of movies instead of making good movies, just for profit. If they really want our money, they will have to do their best making a movie that is worth our money.

They are most definitely hosting offshore (outside of the US anyway). However .org domains all fall under the jurisdiction (or at least 'management' of) of the Public Internet Registry, which is in Reston, Virginia (in the good ol' US of A). Anyway, just an academic curiousity with perhaps future implications if I ever need to run websites that might get shutdown or have their domains seized.

They still have their .se domain left (thepiratebay.se). .SE (the ones who control the .se domain) decided that the pirate bay could keep their domain there.

The Swedish Pirate Party is one of the strongest and best organized of its kind in the whole of Europe. I don't know whether they accept BTC donations or not. But they are the strongest supporters of TPB in Europe.

The Norwegian Pirate Party accepted bitcoin donations during the last election campaign there. Maybe they'll do it here as well. Less than a year to election...
