That's really pessimistic. Miners are what make the networks and there are many many coins to mine. Besides it's not exclusively about the money but about the community and the fun behind fine tuning your rigs and software to squeeze the best hash rate. For a lot of people, including myself, we have computers that are always on anyway and may as well direct some of their otherwise idle processing power towards something that can make us a few extra dollars a week.

We've got a small ASIC rig doing bitcoin, and several PCs doing, at various times, LTC, QRK and DOGE. The BTC stuff we make all stern and serious faces about. The rest is just a blast. Wife and I haven't had this much fun learning new stuff in a long time.
