When a thread gets deleted, would it be possible for all people who have posted in the thread to receive a notification?
I don't see anything fundamentally wrong in all posters getting intimated.

Other than hundreds of shitposters crying in Meta asking why the spam megathread they posted in was deleted. I think it would cause PM spam overload if this was to happen especially with large threads people might have posted in multiple times.

I personally will not like to receive notifications for a deleted thread.

Think about a scenario of a mega thread with 1000s of pages of comments. May be in that thread, you have 100s of posts. Now if they remove the entire thread then you will end up receiving 100s of emails into your mail box. Would you like to delete all these notifications from your email inbox?

Another con: The BitcoinTalk server will be over loaded with SMTP email queue, as a result you may end up receiving other important notifications even after weeks or so.

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

Nope, no need. When you notice your posts decreasing and you get no pm, that surely means the topic got deleted so it was either a spam mega thread or something off-topic. Either way, you lost nothing expect one post in a shitty topic.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

We do have people complaining about their post count and activity count. Plus people get their posts deleted and most of them do not turn up on Meta to give vent to their feelings.

It doesn't have to be 100's of emails. It can be one notification for the thread

Only because they usually think there's some error or something. If they got a notification every time a thread was deleted they'd notice the actual sheer volume of threads that are trashed and ask for reasons why. Staff are already spammed with shitposters reporting their deleted message PM notification constantly "why was this deleted - it was on topic" etc and it's just them posting their ref link or username in a giveaway etc. I can see why users would like to be notified of what threads are deleted but it would be a nightmare for staff and cause more hassle than it's worth in my opinion.

-snip-

What about a locked topic where mods put the title of each deleted mega thread so user could find out which one is trashed.
A note should also be highlighted : No pm/topic are allowed to be sent to mods/created to discuss this deletion.

By necessity, that would require the shitposters to actually read the rule--and you know damn well that ain't gonna happen, and there wouldn't be a way to block a PM to a mod, because you couldn't know beforehand what the PM is about.  It isn't a bad idea by any means, but logistically it's a nonstarter.

Personally I'm very OK with threads--and my posts--being deleted, because I realize it's just moderators doing their job.  I think if you're so concerned about deleted posts, you're a bitcointalk member for the wrong reasons (not talking about you or botany here, I'm speaking of the signature/bounty shitposting plague-carriers).

If mods are doing a good thing by trashing spam threads, why add more work for them by subjecting them to the whiny noise from language-skill deficient morons who will never be satisfied with the answer, won't understand it, and will continue to bitch about the deletions incessantly?  This is something we're all just going to have to deal with, notification or not.

hhh The Pharmacist, i rarely check exactly how many posts i made so i don't have any clue whether i was ever "affected" or not and of course i don't mind.

My suggestion has few points :
- curiosity.
- warning users implicitly to not open these kinds of topics nor to post on it since they will be trashed (or made a clear statement that it is prohibited to open it and the result of doing so = ban).
- directly (temp)ban abusers since they already neglected the warning made in that topic (as you mentioned they will not read it, so just directly ban them).
So yes, it will require more effort (well, not that much, just edit the OP with few trashed topics titles) but long-term consequences are good imo Wink

Fair enough. There are a large number of topics which have been removed - the modlog specifies 873.
I suspect most of them will be topics with no replies, which have been nipped in the bud. We definitely don't want users clogging up Meta with questions about the remaining.

No and technically its a spam or a redundant post or thread thats why sometimes you will not get a notif for that.

So i suggest that always take a look and have a second thought if the thread is spam.

yes, I agree with this suggestion. If moderator notifies the members about their deleted posts, then the member will not create a new thread to ask "why has my post been deleted".we can use some auto-generated message software. So, if a moderator deletes the post, it sends a message to the member about the deleted post.
