Hello everyone, I figured if I had to post here anyway I would post about something I was curious about; graphics cards. I was looking to upgrade my graphics card anyway but what would a good graphics card be for mining? My budget is around $700. I'm guessing it's probably going to be something AMD. Any help is appreciated!

The 7950 is the card of choice for many miners because of its price/performance ratio.

7950 and 7970 (or R9 280x) are great for price/performance if you can find them at non-inflated prices (you could try to get 2 with your budget). R9 290 and R9 290x are faster but also more expensive.

A few of the 290's can be unlocked to 290x variant. If it's just for mining, any of the elder generation 7850,7950,7970,7990 or 280x and above in the most recent generation. This might help a bit: https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

Around now you would probably want a 7970. It gives a great price/performance/power usage ratio.

I got 2 7850's and 2 6870's in the mail. With 700$ though i'd personally go with the new nonreference 290x that came out on newegg.

I like the R9 280x cards, have 1 running now and waiting to setup 2 others. Cost less then the 7970 (ab 400usd per on newegg.com), use about as much power, and can hash upwards of 700kh/s. Plus they are newer, replacing the 7xxx line so if you'd like to add more later they should, hopefully, be more available.

Hello
With that budget you can buy 2 r9 280x wich are pretty cool and will worth the investmen in case you want to sell them in a few months. I bought 2 r9 290 and they are running very nice.
Good luck

get 2x 7950's. You can't go wrong. If you have an older system and trouble fitting one of those cards in it, get a 6990 and make sure to get an 800+ watt power supply. 6990 can be found relatively cheap in some places on ebay

About $100 under your budget you could get an XFX R9 290X. I'm getting 935 Kh/s with mine and pretty happy with it.

It seems a lot of people are referring others towards AMD cards - is there really a clear cut difference between the top AMD and Nvidia cards? Also, when I see people referring to Kh/s, is this value equivalent to all coins?
