problem with my NXT wallet

Hi i recently created a Nxt coin wallet, but there's a problem
I bought some coins from a friend and watched them arrive via Nxt blochchain explorer
problem is, now a couple of days later my wallet still says I have no coins?
how can I fix this? I really like Nxt coin and i'd like to get involved more.

Also I created this, as a way to explain Nxtcoin to the faint of heart,
hopefully it will aid Nxt

It has to synchronise first.

but does that really take more than a week, also I checked my wallet on a friends computer and there it did show my coin amount

If he is synchronised with the server then why not to display.
