I disagree with you about porn and I don't see how porn is degrading to women.  SOME porn is degrading to women (usually the hard core stuff), but definitely not all.  Some women enjoy sex too, believe it or not.

However, I agree 100% that the idea that bitcoin is going to start off with these shady, shitty businesses and magically work it's way up to legitimate business is absurd.  The association of bitcoin and shady, illegal activities has already been made by Silkroad.  These stupid bitcoin porn things are just sealing the deal.

In a world without regulation, I bet the already established companies would buy everything out, destroy everything, while the libertard crowd keeps yelling for litigation, government action, and legal action against them.

Yea pretty much.  If the powerless are powerless with a government, they'll be even more powerless without a government (the force used to protect the powerless).  Removing government isn't going to suddenly turn corporations benevolent and remove their massive power disparity.

Anywho, let's leave the kids and their rhetoric out of one thread and try to keep this one about bitcoin and porn.  Personally, I think bitcoin is already dead.  It got hijacked by the crazies and they ruined it for the rest of us.  I think you make a very valid point, that activities and uses must remain legitimate in order to find favor in the public eye.  Most people in the public are uneasy about bitcoin to begin with, but when they see it's primary uses are buying drugs and porn, that's the last nail in the coffin.  Due to thier self-centered nature, the crazies have adopted the attitude of "we like it, if they don't like it then fuck 'em", which is the same attitude that they use in politics.  Obviously that's the worst approach possible when introducing a new product/service.  If they ever want it to expand beyond the miniscule circle of outcasts that use it, they need to start caring what other people think.

There are different points of view on this topic. Probably the world would be much better if people are tolerant unless their rights are violated. If there are people who like a stupid show, then let them be Smiley

Personally I think any religion is wrong and degrading humans and I do not like when people support it, but that doesn't mean I do not like that people.

But there are a couple that sell porn videos for bitcoins, altough I dont see the business with all the free porn around. Cam services might have more traction.

So you dislike people just because they watch porn? In what kind of prude society have you been raised? :-(

Bitcoin and porn are a perfect match. You can anonymously pay for it without having PORN written all over on a bank transaction. Watching porn is perfectly normal for human beings. If you don't like it, don't watch it but don't hate people just because they play with themself. IMHO it would give the Bitcoin movement a big push if porn sites would accept bitcoins directly. Same for filehosters and mp3 shops.

There was a discussion in some other thread about the VHS vs BetaMax technology fight and how porn was the reason why VHS won the race. It strengthened the VHS distribution.

You wouldn't need to tell anyone.

The point of discovery could be on the (already established) porn sites themselves.

eg. Guy goes to his favorite porn site (or one that he's just been spammed with) and sees the payment options... credit card or bitcoin and maybe that has a link to bitcoin.org.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that LH66 started the exact same discussion about "bitcoin porn" on August 16, 2011, 06:02:17 pm:

So these forums are not safe for women, not at all. Women can't come here to be educated without being offended or verbally harassed. For example, there is somebody here who has, as his sig, a site for bitporn. Do the board mods really believe that women want to see that sort of thing?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=32386.msg460171#msg460171

After this, people were responding and disagreed with her. The discussion went on for a view hours...
Coincidently.... the registration date of our captainteemo(male) in this thread here is August 16, 2011, 10:18:10 pm ....a view hours after LH66 started the discussion. And the next day, on August 17. LH66 stopped the discussion:
I do think people understand my views and are willing to acknowledge that they may have some validity. Thank you all for adding to the discussion.

And now he's complaining about the same thing:
Personally, I think pornography is wrong and degrading to women, and I don't like people who support it.

Bitcoin having things like "bitcoin porn" is not going to make it look better in the eyes of the general public.

Reading the comment history from both accounts however shows that they might not be the same person, there are quite obvious differences in writing style...
I think captainteemo has read the conversation in the other thread and is now just fulfilling his nickname(i read "Captain Emo" the first time, sry), trying to be the wight knight or is just trolling.

Conspiracy! ...Thoughts?

Why would anyone tell people they used bitcoin and be branded "that creepy porn buyer"?
Because porn is not the only thing you can buy with Bitcoins? Bitcoin has other purposes too, it's not dedicated to porn. Just like cash isn't dedicated to drugs. You can buy drugs in every city for cash...does that mean to you everyone who uses cash automatically is a drug addict?

Oh, and I also think there is nothing wrong with porn. Smiley

My understanding of the huge 'bitcoin bubble' a few months back was that it was caused by a senator clamoring to shut down Silk Road and Bitcoins. Saying quite openly that bitcoins were being used to buy drugs.

So it might be that the more moral outrage there is, the faster bitcoin is learnt about and adopted. If that's true, then it makes it worthwhile to support the use of bitcoin for immoral activities, even if that's not what personally interests you.

Whatever two adults want to do with each other is none of your business. If one adult wants to be paid money to pose for nude photographs and another adult wants to pay money to photograph someone nude, it's none of your damned business. Why would you think that what one woman does reflects on all women? They are individuals.

Bitcoin having things like "bitcoin porn" is not going to make it look better in the eyes of the general public.

So what? Anyone that can't tell the difference between a medium of exchange and the services that accept that medium of exchange, probably couldn't figure out how to use Bitcoin anyways.

This couldn't be more wrong.  I know your small mind can't wrap itself around externalities, but try hard for a second...

The issue has nothing to do with what two consenting adults are doing.  The issue is how pornography affects society's perception of women.  If pornography promotes violence against women (something some people claim and have studies to support), then what those two consenting adults do on film very much affects ALL women.
