How to buy Ripples (XRP) with Bitcoin

Hi,

Can somebody explain in a very simple way how to purchase XRP with BTC? Here is my situation.

I have an Ripple wallet with the required minimum and a verified Bitstamp account with a few BTC in it. How the heck do I exchange BTC for XRP? I don't want to buy them on Bitstamp because the price seems too high. I want to buy them on the market, but I can't wrap my head around how to do this. I know I have to "trust" Bitstamp for a certain value, but that's about it. I've read several threads about this, but most of them are explaining how to buy for $USD.
