Low cost desktops?

My laptop broke and I want a temporary system until I get a better computer later.

(I'm from UK)

Looking around at parts it seems I can get one for around ~€170 or $230? (Monitor for €70 and desktop for €100)

Is it possible to go any cheaper since this is a temporary system? Even if it's an old 600mhz desktop with a 14inch CRT for €30

Mac OS would be a problem?
150€ for a 1.07 GHz Power PC M 1.25 GB RAM 80 GB HDD iBook G4 12"

or an ibm thinkpad T41, 1.5 GHz Pentium M, 1.5 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD
same resolution but bigger screen, same problem with the plug and the keyboard is german

That's excellent ... Mac might be a problem since I'd mostly use it for writing free software, so I'm researching now whether it can run Ubuntu and VirtualBox (for dev builds/testing on w$).

EDIT: just saw your re-post... The IBM looks good I only have 100 BTC... How should I pay you?

as for ubuntu on mac yes, it'd work but ubuntu does not officially release power pc editions, they are now community supported
and there's the thing with the electro plug in both cases and qwertz keyboard for the ibm. would that be a problem?

btw i'm sure someone is selling them in uk as well (refurbished, 12month guarantee, local keyboard and charger)

i want to get rid of some of the laptops. i have multiple ibooks g4 12" that i'm going to sell as soon as i sit down and write a proper description & make decent pictures of them. i only offered the i'd buy it back option because i'm really attached to them and saw your call for a cheap pc for a temporary time : )))

the thinkpad must go, don't want that one back. i needed it for writing some code that did not want to work on power pc (the libraries used there). i want to de-clutter my room. ubuntu works on it out of the box, supporting the eth/wifi, sound & graphics. i could add a dicota bag pack on top and an extra pcmcia wifi card (not needed but it supports higher transfer rates than the built in one) if you're interested. not sure if it has enough power for virtual machines.

not sure if it's 42, can clarify that one later when i get home (i think it's 41, 40+ for sure).
100 BTC now and 50 later would work fine. if you want the extras (spare wiri, bag), just add time to your offer (see below)

if you'd be willing to teach me how to debug C on eclipse or netbeans, I would gladly pay for that.
I used to develop in MS visual studio in C back in 2002-2004 at work but i don't have licensed MS dev studio anymore 
and anyway i want to code using free tools + the target platform is ubuntu/debian anyway so the project setup is different
(makefiles completely different, less m$ unnecessary stuff).

i'm looking for skills like "set breakpoint" to stop the execution of a binary
at a given line of code and then being able to execute the code line by line,
being able to examine values of variables in memory
modify them manually if wanted, and important catch & understand error messages.
nothing low level like strace. but a nice gui, mouse clicking etc.
i'd like to modify existing code (like bitcoin p.ex.

I can show you how to use gdb to debug (my setup is usually jam/makefiles/qmake/cmake, vim, gdb, ...). I can look into it, but know that it'd just be something I read & tried from a tutorial, not that I use myself daily.

If you can use it, I have a surplus 12 inch 1024x768 LCD monitor that I'm happy to send you at no cost, just to keep it out of landfill.

The color balance shifts occasionally, but it would be quite OK to use on a temporary basis.
