I think its influence is not very significant, except some altcoins that do have new innovations like ETH. Because I see 85% of the existing altcoin is just as a complement. Then the rest is the one that has an effect on the progress of bitcoin.

Now a days alternate coins has a very huge impact on bitcoin, they are the most important governing factor of valuation of bitcoin, due to some doubtful future of bitcoin and the negative rumours that FUDs snare spreading against bitcoin are some of the cause why people are rushing towards other alternate currencies and thus there is a decrease in demand of bitcoin leading to deflation of valuation of bitcoin, so I think altcoin has a very great impact and yes most obviously affecting the valuation of bitcoin.
