Hi guys, i am really stuck. My mining rig keeps freezing every 2-3 days and require a hard reboot.  I tried all the versions of the driver etc.. to no luck. Temperature is consistent at <80.  How do i go about find out exactly what is the cause? Is there a log or something I can check after rebooting?  Below are the spec thanks!!

-Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified PS
-2x Radeon 5970
-Win 7 ultimate 64bit
-GUIMiner

EDIT: Both cards are running at stock speed, NOT overclocked at all.

Some more info, here is the gpu-z log before the system froze, do you guys think it could be the power supply? but the ps i have should be more than sufficient, not sure what those voltage numbers mean.

My systems do that if I have an overclock that is borderline... although they tend to run somewhere between 12-24 hours before crashing.  I just back the overclock off 20 mhz and they run around the clock with no trouble.  Also, I do much better if I disable Automatic Updates completely, as that seems to mess the miners up (on XP at least).

That happened to me when my overclock was too high -- even if your temps are in the 70s, you can still have freezes after a day or so.
I agree -- back off the clock speed by 10 or 20 MHz, and see if that helps. Or increase the voltage, if you're daring (and can manage the added heat).

I've had more stability on my linux rigs, but that may not be the suggestion you want.

Windows does have its own set of problems, but I think random freeze-ups are primarily due to overclocking.

When a system runs fine for several hours and then hangs, what else COULD it be?  Especially when there's no user input going on.

I'd pile onto the "OC too high" heap, but...
Look at the gpu-z log, that card is running stock 725/1000 clocks at stock voltage.

Edit:
core and vddc temps look ok, maybe a tad high for my taste.
But 30% fanspeed? what do the VDDC temps on the slave GPU look like?

Yes that's the thing i am not OC at all, using stock everything. Not even loading up the OC software. Also turned off all the updates etc..

In the log you can scroll to the right and see the VDDC temperature. For VDDC Phase #1 Temperature [°C] , VDDC Phase #2 Temperature [°C] , VDDC Phase #3 Temperature [°C],  they are all in the 90s.

What are VDDC temperature vs gpu temperature?  My gpu temperature is <80 but VDDC temperature are 90s.

30% fanspeed? Might just have to suck it up and eat some noise by turning that badboy up. You might have particularly finnicky cards. It happens, not all silicon is created equal sadly.

Just a note, it's probably not your PSU, however your particular unit does tend to suffer from poor voltage regulation, and so 24/7 high power consumption could potentially lead to some problems. It might not be a bad idea to touch the voltage on your gpus up or down a hair (you'll need to play with it to find out which they prefer) to compensate, along with the increased fan speed to keep temps in line.

i'm going to agree with the fanspeed if you could provide us with a longer log we'd probably see a gradual increase of temperatures over a few days.

If you found that funny or something i said useful i always appreciate spare change

Yes there is a windows error log in the administrator tools. That may give u some hints to whats going on. Also try using msconfig to turn off all unrelated programs, maybe something is doing an auto update or virus scan is doing a scan ect, this may cause your system to hang. Also could try another miner program

Check the windows error log

control panel > admin tools > event viewer > windows log

check the system and application log around the time it shut off. You will see red X for any problems.

I had a similar issue, turn out to be my external wireless adapter was crashing. update driver and it had been running for 3 weeks now.

I had the same problem. Updated the driver, and I set the fan speed in manual 55%.

After 3 days of stability, I started overclocking and overvolting.  Wink
