Hello everyone! I run the website iheartubuntu.com and I am working to merge the bitcoin and ubuntu linux communities. My site began in 2010 covering the world of Ubuntu with a couple of bitcoin articles here and there. I decided a few months ago to cover more bitcoin news and it has been interesting.

I have seen two very different angles on bitcoins now.

#1 - Bitcoin lovers, users, miners, etc LOVE linux and Ubuntu as its a safe and secure operating system. Miners use it, smart wallet owners use it and so on. I have personally used Ubuntu for 7 or 8 years now exclusively across all my computers (work, home, laptops, desktops) and have never had a virus, spamware, malware, or any other problems. Suffice to say, bitcoin peeps love ubuntu news.

#2 - The other group... the Ubuntu group appears a bit overly protective of Ubuntu and isnt as open to bitcoin news. Ive received plenty of anger letters for even mentioning bitcoins on my site. I can understand this to a point. Afterall, my site is primarily about Ubuntu. Everything else should be secondary (and is) but if I feel the need to cover something I will.

I was at the Inside Bitcoins conference in Las Vegas a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. So many great people and a great vibe. I really think bitcoins will change the world.

I dont need your bitcoins but would love for you to visit my site and follow me on Twitter @iheartubuntu

Best, Dave

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

I am also a big fan of Ubuntu and have had no problems or viruses since I started using it.

I'm also looking forward to checking out the Ubuntu phone operating system.

It seems you can  Cheesy. You can only post once every 6 minutes as a newb, and log-ins, searches, messages and attempted posts count. I'd get used to copying your messages before you send them as a precaution.

I love Ubuntu too!  I use a Mac day-to-day, but keep a Ubuntu desktop handy for testing software, since it's my platform of choice for software/web deployment.  Usually I use it "headless" Wink

Dave,

Thanks so much for your post. This is something I am hoping to look into over the coming months, I must admit I have only skirted over the issue of Ubuntu/Linux and am somewhat of a noob. I will definitely check your website out for some information.

Why do you think your hardcore ubuntu guys are kicking up such a stink? Doesn't the bitcoin discussion cross over into this field somewhat and make it relevant?

One thing Ubuntu does is make the computing experience user friendly. Almost dummy mode if you will. I find it a lot easier than Windows thats for sure. On the cover Ubuntu *IS* user friendly but you still have all the tools you need at your disposal in the software center. So no worries.
