I heard its not as efficient but I dont know any specifics.  I am interested though in mining on a mac because I have 2 of them and would like to start somewhere.  Anyone with any more information would be very helpful.

Asteroid is the easiest to use on mac IMO.  http://www.asteroidapp.com/

I use BFG and cgminer as my main miners on OSX.

It depends on what you want to mine with, for GPU mining you can use diablominer:
