Need advice on a rig

Hey all, need help with a rig i am thinking of putting together. This will be my first real time mining, so i wont be spending much money, i just want to get a feel for it.  I found this on the net, but a friend of mine says its not totally accurate - https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison. I will be looking to do a bit of cpu mining and gpu mining. Cpu will either be a core 2 quad q6600 or maybe a core 2 duo e6600. Gpu will be an ATI 5830. What i need help with is.. what kind of speed will i be geting, as my friend said the wiki comparison isnt totally accurate ?

You already said, and your friend is right. The wiki is not accurate. The only way to find out is to build it and see. Also the GPU you are using isn't the mainstream 7950 or 7990. So not a lot of us know. I am using 7950.

I have 5850 which is pretty darn close to what you got! I get 300kh/s stock from it, and 400kh/s heavily overclocked.

Starts a start, if u set it up and its works, u can always add more.

I don't know your budget, but at least have 2 or more cards per setup. At least a HD 5870, HD 6950 or HD 6970 for starter cards. Ideally, HD 5970, 6990, 7950, 7970, 7990, R9 270X, R9 280X, R9 290 and/or R9 290x. Unless your going to CPU mining, at least a low power dual CPU. If a high end CPU and CPU mining, then a low end Core i7 or AMD 8 core FX series. Minimum 8GB RAM, 16 GB suggested if more than 2 GPU cards.

If you already have a decent PC, jsut spend all the $$ on a gfx card.  The wiki isnt entirely accurate, but its a really good estimate.  Typically if you are not getting similar results its a config issue.

Or you should save up for a 7950. They are double the speed of what you are building.

600 - 670 KH/s per GPU. I got 6 in my rig. And as someone said earlier you can always add more.

Also make sure you are going to use a powerful Power Supply. Not point upgrading this, if you can get one which is 1200w - 1600w from the start.

Another thing is to get a good motherboard so you can expand.

The wiki is off and/or not exactly, but with my 2 HD 6970, I'm get 500 kh/s each. That's pretty close to what the wiki has them rated and I got them both for $220 on Craigslist. I'm mining on a budget myself and also got 2 HD 5870's on another setup. Pulling in total, 1600~1800 kh/s.

The problem with the 5870's is the price for 2nd hand ones on ebay.. been watching a few pastw eek, and they are going for £150+ each.. i can buy a friends 5830 for £40..

I bought my HD 5870's for $60 and $80 USD, but that was 3 months ago. Hard to get reasonably used prices on AMD/ATI cards at the moment, because people are starting to know that GPU mining is profitable.

DO IT! You will learn more about mining in process and you will know what exactly you want after a day using it

what kind of power supply you have for 4X 280x? and is that 720khs Stock Hash or Overclocked?

I am running 5x r9 280x on 4gb 2x2 gb gskill with no performance hit (the 5 card rig runs 1% slower than 2 card rig, not sure why maybe the ram /?)

7200rpm sata 6 500gb hdd

xubuntu

so I highly doubt you need 16GB, but perhaps if you are overclocking or on windows it affects performance more. or on certain types of coin. I haven't tested thoroughly enough to say for sure.
