So, when I got into cryptos from forex and cfd's I had some spare money to waste! So as a computer hardware and newborn crypto enthusiast I decided to build my own farm!
And now for some Pros and Cons!
Setup: RX480 x3, i3-3220. Miner: MultiMiner
Pros: 1)Some passive income 2)Just cool thing to have.
Cons: 1) Noise ( it is frustrating you cannot do anything with it, even if you close the door, it is almost vibrating through the air) 2) Dust ( it sweevels dust around like crazy, imagine cleaning your appartment every 2 days) 3) Hardware falure ( probably the most frustrating part about mining) i had 2 PSU's that just gave up on me, this doubles the waste of your money, first of all you need to buy a new one and waste your time searching for it.
In conclusion, it was a good run but I am no longer mining, 20$ a month with all electrical bills and cons of this system is just not enough for me to continue this journey Grin
What do you think about mining? Is it still alive for enthusiasts with no thousands of dollars in their pockets?

I don't know for everyone whether it's worth it or not, in fact i have never stopped my mining rigs since the GPU miners were hit by a disaster.
One of which my rig: - 6x R9 290 - 8x RX 580 8GB
Btw, Still profit (after an electricity bill) even though "lower" profit compared with 1 year ago.

What do you mean? Whether it's related to what the @OP wants from other members to think about current mining. What do you think about mining? Is it still alive for enthusiasts with no thousands of dollars in their pockets?

It's a rewarding hobby for me. I like tinkering with computers, and I've already almost made about 200% I've invested starting since May 2017. I'll continue mining as long as it's even marginally profitable. I agree the most frustrating thing is trying to figure out hardware issues, but I'm like House MD. Just have to figure out the puzzle.

I liked Corsairs myself, but now I buy exclusively Thermaltakes.

It's the real deal as profits can be generated and too the best of both worlds if one is also a geek.

Well, let's consider some history. Geeks mined bitcoin with video cards since 2009. Some of those guys mined enough to be worth $200 Million dollars today. Bitcoin was the genesis of cryptocurrency and now there are thousands of GPU/ASIC/FPGA minable coins.
So to answer the topic: Yes, geek hobby and yes, real deal. It is all of that and more... hobby, real deal, profession, etc...

Yeah "farm" is a bit off. Maybe window planter box garden? But yeah two dead psu's....that sucks. Get quality psu's. EVGA Gold GQ's are reasonably priced and come with a 3 year warranty? I have had good luck with those.

I have 2 GTX 1070 and 1 GTX 1070ti. Profit of about $ 162 excluding electricity. You get used to the noise quickly. It is better to buy high-quality power supplies with a good guarantee. I use Corsair.

Guess i have a sensitive ears) Not really a fan of Nvidia cards due to their power consumption. AMD chips are much more overclockable)
