This will be the thread for all information related to the test net of NXT. Please keep all test net related information in here so as not to clutter up the other thread about the main net.

I have two testnet servers up and running and some others do as well. I can give root access to any developer if they wish to try out new features, etc.

If someone could write up how to setup test net and which files need to be edited for ports that would be great.

We also need an original account holder to please give us their passphrase so we can unlock some coins to use on the test net. ONLY AFTER YOUR COINS ARE IN A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT ON THE MAIN NET.

Here are my test net IPs:

https://95.85.13.239:6875

https://162.243.81.243:6875

NXT VPS Server Donations can be sent here: 6044921191674841550
At the end of each month I will donate some of them back to the community.
This is separate from my main wallet so you can keep track of them. I will keep them in there and only use them for hosting.

I am in for the testnet as a tester. I want to test the new asset exchange first hand.

I am open to suggestions.

Maybe set firewalls to only allow other known participants on those ports?

we could test the general server communication in a open discussion here.
if we or a part of us will test the pre releases we/they can exchange the new ip / port parameter via pm?

no you guys keep on for now as planned.  for now i wont be in on the testnet, i believe i can design a private net for us all to test on.  it will require everyone to change IPs later though.

would be a good idea for you guys to get it running now, just be ready for the storm.... give me a week or 2 and I should be able to whip something up.  Im a forums admin so i can create private groups etc for us to converse privately in.

just give me a bit of time

Awesome, appreciate it! I am not a developer myself so I won't really be using the test net but I can certainly fund and maintain the nodes.

would be good to know what to do with a test net.
is there already a test protocol for the different features?
or is it to be defined?

Well I imagine once the source is released we will want a place to test new features while not disrupting the main chain. Or if any other major features like the alias feature that was tested on the other test net

We need to be able to 'play' with the code after it is open sourced - optimize it maybe.
Any change should be always heavily tested.

Guys I am not sure what you need (except from the genesis account) so post here if you need any help from me, I am watching it!

Regarding the account I need some time to think about it..

the question was more about how to play?
that means what is exactly the target of a test - or lets say what are the rules and boundary conditions for each game?
every new feature may need a little modified test protocol to test the critical situations.
if there are no test protocol for each feature now,
my suggestion was to use the time until everything is well organized to discuss the test protocol for each feature.
to know what to do after having a test net would save some time at least.

cheers

maybe I'm wrong, but is it possible solve the problem with the account this way?

- fund the "play money" on day x to a new account when the test nodes are online and integrated into production net.
- after the transfer is confirmed we isolate the test net from production net.
- so we have a isolated side branch, based on production net blockchain, where the devs can play
- in production net the account with play money is still untouched

where is point I'm wrong? ;-)

I have thought about this. I don't know why I thought it was not a good idea at the time. Let me sleep on it and see what tomorrow brings.
