To everyone out there , there has been a big rise in scams in the last few weeks with emails being sent out from people using a near identical email from companies doing airdrop and sending a link via email to a site that is near identical to my ether wallet. Everyone be careful and never type in your private key and always contact the company via website email anytime you aren’t certain... stay safe

Scams like this existed way in the past and will continue to exist if more people still get scammed. The best way to protect yourself for these scams is to educate yourself.

Also, make sure to report the people who send these messages.

The number of scammers remains the same. The fact that you've experienced an increase is directly related to the number of airdrops and bounty campaigns popping out. People responsible are making money by selling email databases and those end up in the hands of scammers, advertising agencies, hackers, and so on. I have never been targeted by phishing scams, advertising and such simply because I've never given my email to these people. If you really want to try them out, make sure o use a burner email.

Some tips to avoid being scammed would be:
-Don't take shortcuts...makes you an easy target for fraudsters
-Don't follow the masses...if a coin becomes popular really fast, make sure to do your research first.
-Pros and cons of a coin will always be open, don't fall for big promises
-Understand the blockchain technology, if the code base isn't open proceed with caution

Hope this helps!

There are so many scammers and phishers out there, you must be vigilant and very careful in everything you do especially when you are clicking, just "think before you click". Here is a thread on how to avoid scams in bitcointalk
