I am looking at getting into bitcoin mining. Currently I am doing alt coin mining with GPUs. So my question is, If I get a antminer U1 usd stick, does it have to go into a block erupter or can I plug it directly into the PC until I get more antminers?

Any help will be greatly appericated.

It will fit any standard USB port, which must provide sufficient power (2.5w/.5a)

One stick in a PC should be fine as long as your usb ports aren't taxed already

The only thing that is currently plugged into the usb is a keyboard and mouse. and they are USB 2.0 as well, if that makes a difference. But basically you are saying that if I decide to add more of them, then to get a block erupter.

If you mean the "block erupter 49 port hub", you don't need to go that far unless you plan to power A LOT of sticks.

You can use powered usb hubs as long as you stay within tolerance, eg: this hub will comfortably power 7 sticks @ .5a each as it has a 4amp psu --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182208

What you want to stay away from is USB3.0 hubs (some incompatibility/power issues) and running your mining software on winxp (usb com port issues)
