Im fairly new to Bitcoin mining,
At the moment I have a GTS250 which runs at about 30 Mhash/second with GUIMiner and Phoenix.

My question is, Whats the best miner to use?

I plan to upgrade to a Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6870 Vapor-X if this method proves successful. |

If you are trying with anything under 100 hash than you are not helping     You should start mining when you get the new card. |

I would say for BTC guild is the best pool but I'm not 100% percent sure they aren't cheating their miners.  Of course you can't be 100% sure on any pool. |

Phoenix.  I've tried Diablo and Poclbm but Phoenix consistently delivers the best performance in terms of % stales and MH/s. |

http://bitclockers.com/ is a real descent pool. guiminer is real easy to setup for new miners. i suggest you get a new card real soon. 30mh/s isnt goin to get you anywhere |

Used to be true. Now cgminer beats all three flat out when it comes to stales (and is equivalent to phoenix+best kernels when it comes to MH/s)Over the course of 40-50k shares, my stale rate with Phoenix is about .2%.  How much better is cgminer than that? |

phoenix-1.50 with phatk 3% moded gets the highest hashrate around 300 MH/s on my 6870 and only 0.47% stales.

Currently CGminer gives equal performance in MH/s to Phoenix (latest versions for both), but a lot of extras: One thread for multiple GPUs with a very nice overview and configuration interfaceAutomatic restarting of GPU threadsBetter LongPoll/NewBlock detection (tried it recently with one of the new *Coins, with blocks coming in every few seconds)Less than 0.1% stales, compared to 0.5% for Phoenix (at least with my miner/pool combination)
As for overclocking, atitweak is by far the simplest and most effective tool (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25750.0 ). If you decide to give up the nice graphic environment, there are truly much better options. Good luck! |
