1. It has scientific value since it is a fork of primecoin. Energy is not wasted only for heat but also for mathematics/cryptography.
2. It has value as data storage for small extremely important files that need to be stored forever. And this is its main value.
3. It has the common cryptocurrency values and since it is CPU only everyone can mine it without expensive hardware and furthermore, since mining block reward is getting bigger with more transactions and use (50DTC max) that means early adopters have smaller gain than other coins.

Why do you still support retarded coins? Dont waste valuable energy for retarded coins. Help Datacoin succeed.

Most known criticism answer:
Q1: What if illegal stuff on the blockchain??
A1: Namecoin blockchain already has CP and bitcoin already has illegal stuff on it and at least links for CP/wikileaks files but who knows what more. So the common question of "what happens when someone posts CP" has no meaning since what happens to Datacoin can happen to Bitcoin too.

Q2: Huge blockchain
A2: The blockchain is going to be rather big but will not be more than 512GB per year and in fact it is not going to be more than 300 Gb by the end of 2014. There is already thinking for  personal chains to solve the problem but only thinking as of now. However as for bitcoins not all users are really required to have the whole blockchain on their PC as they use trusted exchanges/online wallets. And after all 1 TB hard disk that will not be full until 2016 at least costs now 65 dollars....

DTC is my go to coin. Anyone with an introduction in marketing or business is aware that innovation resulting in unique features leads to a good product. If not good, potentially good and potential is good enough for me so far. The coin is still young so regarding it's age I can understand is has not been picked up by a exchange yet. It is the lack of awareness and support that baffles me. That said, when EAC is listed, DTC should be listed.

Giveaways seems to be the way to go, but it's hard to compete against coins that issues X million(practically worthless) units in one week. Especially when all what new users seems to care about is the number of coins they can get their hands on, and not the value of the total product(the coin as a whole).

The forum is in need of more traffic. The giveaways by @maxsolnc and @KeyserSozeMC were really good. If the next giveaway maybe has the receiver join the DTC forum we would get more people on board? Though I am not sure how many would stay and how many would remain active.

If anyone wants more info, visit http://datacoin.info - It is one of the most innovative coins out there with it's unique features. Uniqe = "being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else"

This is my bump.

I totally agree with you about giveaways being difficult for DTC. Right now giveaways are giving 0.5-2.5 dollars worth of DTC when Doges, EAC etc are giving penies. There is the fee also making it difficult but there is talking about lowering it.

And you idea about giving DTC through the forum is really nice! Indeed next giveaway must be through our forum (which actually needs a captcha for first 2 posts or something)

Lets see what cryptsy does the next days... Smiley

I really like DTC, and Im sure it has muuuuuuuuuch more value than other coins. I have 12 servers mining currently Smiley The idea of reducing transaction fee should be implemented IMO, would givethe coin much more liquidity and increase the traffic for sure.

I think datacoin is quite promising. It has a lot of potential to become a mainstream cryptocurrency, like XPM. Furthermore, it has been listed on bter.com recently (DTC/CNY exchange). I thinkd the only thing you need to do is just more marketing.

It is really innovative - storing the data in the blockchain without needing to resort to things like encoding the data in addresses of 1-satoshi transactions, etc .... but the question is, whether there is demand for such storage, since google drive and others give you 25 GB for free and while there is not such high availability, this is "good enough" for most of the people ...

I guess we need some killer app or killer cause (censorship in china? post your news into DTC blockchain ....) to get this running seriously ....

google drive etc still require some sort of name, email etc. Datacoin is far more anonymous in my opinion.

And also companies are prone to censorship....If you store piratebay on google drive it will stay there?

Most known criticism answer:
Q1: What if illegal stuff on the blockchain??
A1: Namecoin blockchain already has CP and bitcoin already has illegal stuff on it and at least links for CP/wikileaks files but who knows what more. So the common question of "what happens when someone posts CP" has no meaning since what happens to Datacoin can happen to Bitcoin too.

Except, wouldn't users be storing CP directly on their local hard drive?

My understanding is that they would also be distributing it as well.

I may be mistaken.

Its the same with bitcoin blockchain! If you have the client on your PC its the same for both coins. If you want you dont use the client on you PC but you use online wallets for both and there is no problem.

How much space does the blockchain take up right now?

Is the blockchain going to take up an obnoxious amount of space with this coin?

I do not think you answered my question.

How does the Bitcoin blockchain directly distribute CP?

I do not think you answered my question.

How does the Bitcoin blockchain store CP directly on a client user's hard drive?

How does the Bitcoin blockchain directly distribute CP?
[/quote]

According to a guy on reddit:

"The process of getting the data into the blockchain is effectively steganography, the hiding of one piece of data within another. The data is neither catalogued nor readily accessible - it goes through base64 encoding and needs to be addressed using a key, and is sandwiched inbetween a bunch of other blockchain data. The fact nobody really knows the full content of most blockchains in entirety owes to the complex and vast nature of the data, and this would be no different."

But please read everything on the technical thread about Datacoin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=325735.0

How much space does the blockchain take up right now?

Is the blockchain going to take up an obnoxious amount of space with this coin?

I think right now it is 140Mb. See the OP for the second question or the technical thread maybe.
