Hi, im about to make my very first litecoin/other alt coin mining rig. Some people said that 7950 and 280x may not run together properly. Is this true?

I already bought a:

Sapphire 3GB 7950 BOOST
MSI R9 280x

the 280x equivalent is the 7970, which can be run in crossfire since they're pretty much the same card

As thah00pz stated, the 280x is a rebranded 7970 not a 7950... The 270x is neither a 7950, the 270x is a rebranded 7870.
In the future make sure you combine cards in the same range.

For one thing, the 7950 likes -g 1 settings while the 280x(7970) likes -g 2 settings.

-g is your gpu-threads setting, and it's a serious serious pita getting cards liking different -g settings to work well with each other.

I've tried splitting config files between the -g 1 and -g 2 cards, batch files the same but the result is always the same, even after messing with the --gpu-map flag.

Why don't you test if they work or not? And share the results with us.

You are talking shit, I used to run very diverse specter of cards, from 5870 up to 280X on single machine. You just need to configure cgminer properly, that is all...

Yeah, but then i can't sell the 7950 as new Sad

Basically, I bought the MSI 280x's for £230 on sale. If i sell my 7950 for £265 then I can buy another MSI 280x for £270 but its not on sale anymore Sad

No, not screwed....it can be done but it's a real pain in the neck.

You should be able to flip that 7950 on ebay for $325-350 no problem, especially if it's one of the Sapphire reference blower model 3Ls/4Ls.

Aren't 7950's better than 280x's?

Performance / watt is *usually* better on the 7950.  7950s really do well when undervolted to 1.0v or less and maintaining the 600khs+ hash mark.

The 280x can achieve similiar performance / watt by undervolting, but most models are locked.

Can't go wrong with either, tbh.

It will be more good if you could exchange one of your gpu and get the same product with other

This^

It can be done but it takes some playing around. Many people just expect to plug and play... or plug, copy .conf, and play.

Unfortunately i've run into similiar problems lately - i got 7850(~315kHash/s) and 7950(~650kHash/s) in one rig, but, when I run them together i only get ~650kHash/s  Undecided Didn't solve the problem so I am going make two rigs - first with 2x7850 and second with 2x7950

I don't really care about the watt usage unless if it goes over 700w (750w will be the psu i am buying).  Should I just sell the 7950. I got it for a good price  at £170 Cheesy Btw everyone - i live in the uk

I've got those 2 in a rig right now (both are MSI though) and it's working just fine.

Like the previous poster said you do need 2 separate batch files for the best results because of the threads flag (g-).

good luck!
