I say if you are new to mining and want to see what its like to solo mine, you could mine some hoboknickles, they were just released recently, and its good learning experience.

Assemble a GPU rig, they are the best to keep warm in and keep mining Bitcoin.   I am sure they will certainly keep your room nice and cozy.  Get the GPU second handed from Ebay etc, no point spending on new, you will never get your ROI.

Seconded (middlecoin). Just to give a point of reference, I make roughly 0.15 BTC per day with 2.5 mhash, so it is quite profitable (relatively speaking) to mine there Smiley.

i tend to go with the ones with a more knowledgeable dev team behind it. Usually you can tell how skilled they are by the look of the website Wink anoncoin is looking damn good in that dept.

I eould suggest mining a brand new coin that still has low difficulty so you can mine respectively a lot.
You should try and check out out coin. It is calles Cloudcoin.

We just released it. You can leadn more about the coin on the beta website: cloudcoin.webs.com
