Yeah, I wouldn't mind knowing more too.  Obs CPU mining is not for a lot of profit, but it can be educational to setup software and see what's up with the hardware you have.

Cpu mining is not worth now but still you could learn something, There is no any importance of what coin you mine. Try QRK its less output but good to learn

You can indeed get some quarks with your CPU. Another (not widespread yet) is SecureCoin.

protoshares, primecoin, quarks, datacoin are cpu mining and PTS (protoshares) is the at this moment the highest cpu value coin but the DIFF is so high.
i prefer primecoin for daily mining right now.

I am not dedicating my CPU just to mining....I am on a laptop and while doing my work I open up the miner and getting around 450kh/s mining quarkcoins. The temperature remains around 80C...It won't affect my laptop as long as the temperature is kept under 80 right?

In the long run it might affect the lifespan of your laptop (the cooler it stays, the better).

You should try a new coin like CAT or Moon coin. Any coin that uses scrypt can be mined with the CPU.
New coins have a low difficulty, for older coins you really need one or several GPU's or ASIC's to stay profitable.

Good luck and happy mining!

ProtoShares and MemoryCoin 2.0 are the best (now). Try them.

It's not that easy to say about which coin is best to mine. That depends on quite a lot of factors so basically this is also affected from what you search for.

XPM and/or PTS are your best bets.

Be warned both are quite difficult to mine out.

MemoryCoin is the most profitable coin to mine on your CPU (by far...)
Here's a guide:

Yep you can still mine Quarks. Pretty strong network = high difficulty for how many new coins there are though..

Makes sense to mine memorycoin and sell for Quark.

vertcoin is quite good to mine. I also mine primecoin, quark and protoshares.

I don't think it is not worth mining CPU mining. BTC-e got primecoin, also cryptsy got primecoin as one of the major pair.
